በሒሳብ ዓመቱ አጋማሽ የሁሉም ባንኮች የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠን 2.9 ትሪሊዮን ብር መድረሱ ተመላከተ

በኢትዮጵያ የባንክ ኢንዱስትሪ ዘርፍ እየተንቀሳቀሱ የሚገኙ ባንኮች በዘንድሮው የሒሳብ ዓማት አጋማሽ በአብዛኞቹ ቁልፍ የባንክ ሥራ መመዘኛዎች ዕድገት እያሳዩ መሆናቸው ተመላከተ። የአገሪቱ ባንኮችን የ2017 ግማሽ የሒሳብ ዓመት አፈጻጸም እንደሚያሳየው፣ በገበያ ውስጥ የሚገኙ 32 ባንኮች አጠቃላይ የሀብት መጠን ከአራት ትሪሊዮን ብር በላይ ነው፡፡ 

ባንኮች ከደረሱበት አጠቃላይ የሀብት መጠን ውስጥ ብልጫ ያለውን ድርሻ የያዘው መንግሥታዊው የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ሲሆን፣ የባንኩ አጠቃላይ የሀብት መጠን በ2017 ሒሳብ ዓመት አጋማሽ ላይ 1.97 ትሪሊዮን ብር መሆኑን ከመረጃው ለመረዳት ተችሏል። ቀሪው ደግሞ የግል ባንኮችና የኢትዮጵያ ልማት ባንክ ድርሻ ነው፡፡ 

በተቀማጭ ገንዘብ አሰባሰብ ረገድም የአገሪቱ ባንኮች የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠን ከ23 በመቶ በላይ ዕድገት አሳይቷል፡፡ በሒሳብ ዓመቱ ግማሽ ላይ የሁሉም ባንኮች አጠቃላይ ተቀማጭ የገንዘብ (ከወለድ ነፃን ጨምሮ) ከ2.9 ትሪሊዮን ብር በላይ ደርሷል፡፡ ከዚህ ውስጥ በኢንዱስትሪው ከፍተኛውን የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ በማሰባሰብ ቀዳሚውን ድርሻ የያዘው መንግሥታዊው የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ሲሆን ከግል ባንኮች ደግሞ አዋሽ ባንክ በቀዳሚነት ተቀምጧል፡፡ በ2017 የሒሳብ ዓመት በግማሽ ዓመት አጠቃላይ የተቀማጭ ገንዘቡ መጠን 1.42 ትሪሊዮን ብር ሆኖ የተመዘገበ ሲሆን፣ ከዚህ ውስጥ በመደበኛው የባንክ አገልግሎት ያሰባሰበው ተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠን 1.21 ትሪሊዮን ብር ነው፡፡ ቀሪው 152.5 ሚሊዮን ብር ከወለድ ነጻ የባንክ አገልግሎት ያሰባሰበው መሆኑን የባንኩ መረጃ ያመለክታል፡፡ 

ከግል ባንኮች ደግሞ ከፍተኛ መጠን ያለው ተቀማጭ ገንዘብ ማሰባሰብ የቻለው አዋሽ ባንክ ሲሆን፣ እስከ ሒሳብ ዓመቱ አጋማሽ ድረስ ያሰባሰበው የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠን ከ253 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ ነው፡፡ ከግል ባንኮች ሁለተኛ ደረጃ ላይ የተቀመጠው አቢሲኒያ ባንክ ሲሆን፣ የባንኩ የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠን ከ220 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ መሆኑን መረጃው ያመለክታል፡፡ ዳሸን ባንክም ከፍተኛ የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ በማሰባሰብ የሚጠቀስ ሲሆን በግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨረሻ ላይ የደረሰበት የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠን ከ166.7 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ ሆኖ ተመዝግቧል፡፡ 

ከፍተኛ ተቀማጭ ገንዘብ ካሰባሰቡት የግል ባንኮች መካከል በቀጣይነት የተቀመጠው የኦሮሚያ የኅብረት ሥራ ባንክ ሲሆን፣ በተጠቀሰው ጊዜ ውስጥ ከ130 ቢሊዮን ብር ማሰባሰብ ችሏል።

ከላይ የተጠቀሱት አራቱ የግል ባንኮች በተጨማሪ ሌሎች ስምንት የግል ባንኮች እያንዳንዳቸው የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠናቸውን ከ40 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ ማድረስ እንደቻሉ መረጃው ያመለክታል። ከስምንቱ ባንኮች ውስጥ ኅብረት ባንክ በግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨረሻ ላይ የደረሰበት የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ መጠን ከ80.6 ቢሊዮን ብር ነው፡፡ ቀሪዎቹ ሰባት ባንኮች ደግሞ ኦሮሚያ ባንክ 63.9 ቢሊዮን ብር፣ ዓባይ 61.7 ቢሊዮን ብር፣ ወጋገን ከ58.15 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ፣ ዘመን ባንክ 52.72 ቢሊዮን ብር፣ ንብ ባንክ ከ48.9 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ፣ ቡና ባንክ ከ46.7 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ፣ አንበሳ ባንክ ከ40 ቢሊዮን ብር በላይ የተቀማጭ ገንዘብ ማሰባሰብ ችለዋል፡፡ 

ሁሉም ባንኮች እስከ ግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨረሻ ድረስ የሰጡት የተከማቸ የብድር መጠን (ቦንድን ጨምሮ) ከ2.8 ትሪሊዮን ብር በላይ የደረሰ ሲሆን፣ ከዚህ ውስጥ 1.32 ትሪሊዮን ብሩ የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ድርሻ መሆኑ ተጠቀሟል። 

በኢንዱስትሪው ውስጥ አሁንም ዕድገት እየታየበት የመጣው የባንክ ደንበኞች ቁጥር ነው፡፡ እስከ ግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨረሻ ድረስ በሁሉም ባንኮች የተቀማጭ ሒሳብ የከፈቱት ደንበኞች ቁጥር ከ172 ሚሊዮን በላይ መድረሱ ተመላክቷል፡፡ በዚህም የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ብልጫ ያለውን ድርሻ የያዘ ሲሆን በግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨረሻ ላይ አጠቃላይ የደንበኞቹን ቁጥር 41.38 ሚሊዮን ማድረስ ችሏል፡፡ 

የኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ከደረሰበት 41.38 ሚሊዮን ደንበኞች ውስጥ 34.57 ሚሊዮን የሚደርሱት የመደበኛው የባንክ አገልግሎት ደንበኞች ሲሆኑ ቀሪዎቹ 6.81 ሚሊዮን የሚሆኑት ደግሞ ከወለድ ነጻ የባንክ አገልግሎት ተጠቃሚዎች የከፈቱት አካውንት መሆኑን ለማወቅ ተችሏል፡፡ 

የግል ባንኮችም የደንበኞቻቸው ቁጥር በከፍተኛ ደረጃ እየጨመሩ ሲሆን የደንበኞቻቸውን ቁጥር ከአንድ ሚሊዮን በላይ ማድረስ የቻሉ ባንኮች ቁጥር 14 መድረሱን መቻሉን ለማወቅ ተችሏል፡፡ እስከ ግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨረሻ ድረስ 14ቱን ባንኮች የደንበኞቻቸውን ቁጥር ከ1.12 ሚሊዮን እስከ 14.2 ሚሊዮን በላይ ማድረስ የቻሉ ናቸው፡፡ በኢንዱስትሪው ከኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ቀጥሎ ከፍተኛ ቁጥር ያላቸውን ደንበኞች የያዘው የኦሮሚያ የኅብረት ሥራ ባንክ በ2017 የሒሳብ ዓመት ግማሽ ዓመት መጨረሻ ላይ አጠቃላይ የደንበኞችን ቁጥር 14.2 ሚሊዮን ማድረስ ችሏል፡፡ ይህም ከግል ባንኮች ከፍተኛ ቁጥር ያለው ደንበኞችን በመያዝ ለተከታታይ ዓመታት ቆይቷል፡፡ 

ዘንድሮ ለየት ባለ ሁኔታ ባንኮች የውጭ ምንዛሪ ግኝታቸውን ከፍ ያደረጉበት ዓመት እንደሆነ ተጠቅሷል፡፡ በሒሳብ ዓመቱ በግማሽ ዓመት ውስጥ የግል ባንኮች ከ3.3 ቢሊዮን ዶላር በላይ የውጭ ምንዛሪ ግኝት ያስመዘገቡ ሲሆን በዚህ የውጭ ምንዛሪ ግኝትም በኢንዱስትሪው የቆዩ ትልልቅ ባንኮች ከፍተኛ የውጭ ምንዛሪ ማግኘት ስለመቻላቸው ተመልክቷል፡፡ 

በግማሽ ዓመቱ ከግል ባንኮች ከፍተኛ መጠን ያለው የውጭ ምንዛሪ ግኝት ያስመዘገበው አዋሽ ባንክ ሲሆን በግማሽ ዓመት ውስጥ ብቻ ከ390.1 ሚሊዮን ዶላር አግኝቷል፡፡ ዳሸን ባንክ 548 ሚሊዮን ዶላር፣ አቢሲኒያ ባንክ 317 ሚሊዮን ዶላር ዘመን ባንክ 270 ሚሊዮን ዶላር በማስመዝገብ በተከታታይ ደረጃ ላይ ተቀምጠዋል፡፡ 

በግማሽ ዓመቱ የውጭ ምንዛሪ ግኝታቸውን ከ50 ሚሊዮን ዶላር በላይ ካደረሱት መካከል የኦሮሚያ የኅብረት ሥራ፣ ኦሮሚያ ባንክ፣ ወጋገን ባንክ፣ ኅብረት ባንክ፣ ዓባይ ባንክ፣ ብርሃን ባንክ፣ ንብ ኢንተርናሽናል ባንክ፣ ባንክ ተጠቃሽ ናቸው፡፡ 

ከኦሮሚያ የኅብረት ሥራ ባንክ ቀጥሎ በርካታ የተቀማጭ ሒሳብ ደንበኞች የያዘው አቢሲኒያ ባንክ ሲሆን በግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨሻ የደንበኞቹ ቁጥር 13.92 ሚሊዮን መድረሱ ታውቋል፡፡ ቀጣዩን ደረጃ የያዘው አዋሽ ባንክ ሲሆን 13.3 ሚሊዮን ደንበኞችን መያዝ የቻለ ሲሆን በቅርቡ ከብድርና ቁጠባ ተቋማት ወደ ባንክ የተሸጋገረው ፀደይ ባንክም ከ14 ሚሊዮን በላይ ደንበኞች እንዳሉት ሪፖርት አድርጓል፡፡ ፀደይ ባንክ የደንበኞቹ ቁጥር በዚህን ያህል ደረጃ ሊመዘገቡ የቻሉት በብድርና ቁጠባ ተቋም ሆኖ በሚሠራበት ወቅት ያሉትን ደንበኞች በሙሉ ወደዚህ በማዞሩ እንደሆነ ያገኘነው መረጃ ያስረዳል፡፡ 

የደንበኞቻቸውን ቁጥር ከአራት ሚሊዮን በላይ በማድረስ ተጠቃሽ የሆኑት ባንኮች ኅብረት፣ ዓባይ፣ ወጋገን፣ ንብ፣ ቡና፣ ኦሮሚያና ዳሸን ባንክ ተጠቃሽ ሲሆኑ በተለይ ዳሸን ባንክ በግማሽ ዓመቱ መጨረሻ 7.34 ሚሊዮን ኦሮሚያ ባንክ ደግሞ 6.35 ሚሊዮን በማድረስ ይጠቀሳሉ፡፡ 

ከባንኮች የቅርንጫፎች ማስፋት ጋር በተያያዘ ግን ከዚህ ቀደም ይታይ የነበረው ያህል ዕድገት እያሳየ አፈጻጸም እየመዘገበ ስላለመሆኑ እየተነገረ ነው፡፡ በግማሽ ዓመቱ ባንኮች አዳዲስ ቅርንጫፎች የከፈቱና አጠቃላይ ባንኮች ያሏቸው የቅርንጫፎች ብዛት ከ12,200 በላይ የደረሰ ቢሆንም ይህ የቅርንጫፎች ቁጥር ዕድገት በቀደሙት ዓመታት ሲታይ በነበረው ልክ ዕድገት ያላሳየ ነው ተብሏል፡፡ 

በጉዳዩ ዙሪያ ያነጋገርናቸው የባንክ ባለሙያ ለሪፖርተር እንደገለጹት ብዙ ባንኮች በተለይ ትልልቅ የሚባሉ ባንኮች የቅርንጫፍ ከፍታቸውን ገታ በማድረግ በዲጂታል የባንክ አገልግሎቶች ወደማስፋፋት መግባታቸው አንዱ ምክንያት ነው፡፡ 

እንደ ኢትዮጵያ ንግድ ባንክ ያሉ ደግሞ አንዳንድ ቅርንጫፎችን በማጠፍ እየሠሩ መሆኑንም የባንኮች የቅርንጫፎች ዕድገት አዝጋሚ ሆኖ እንዲታይ አድርጎታል ይላሉ፡፡ ወደፊትም ይህ ሁኔታ የሚቀጥል መሆኑንም ሳይጠቅሱ አላለፉም፡፡ 

የአገሪቱ ባንኮች በተናጠል እያሳዩ ያሉት ዕድገት የተለያየ ሆኖ መቀጠሉ እንዴት ይታያል ለሚለው ጥያቄ የኢኮኖሚ ባለሙያው አቶ አወት ተክኤ በሰጡት አስተያየት አፈጻጸማቸው አነስተኛ የሆኑ ባንኮች የተሻለ ዕድገት ለማስመዝገብ የተለያዩ አማራጮችን መጠቀም ይኖርባቸዋል፡፡ 

በተለይ ካፒታላቸው አነስተኛ የሆኑ ባንኮች ካፒታላቸውን ለማሳደግ በሌሎች አገሮች እንደሚደረገው አንዱ መፍትሔ ባለአክሲዮኖቻቸውን አሳምነው ካፒታላቸውን ከፍ ማድረግ ነው፡፡ 

ይህ ውሳኔ በሌሎች እንዳይዋጡ የሚያደርግ ሲሆን ከውጭ ባንኮች ጋር በጥምረት ለመሥራት ዕድል እንደሚፈጥርላቸው አክለዋል፡፡ ሌላው ዝቅተኛ አፈጻጸም አላቸው የሚባሉ ባንኮች በገበያው ለመቆየት እንደ አማራጭ ማየት የሚገባቸው ስፔሻላይዝድ የሆነ አገልግሎት የሚሰጥ ባንክ ማድረግ ነው፡፡ 

በኢትዮጵያ ሁሉም የንግድ ባንኮች ተመሳሳይ ሥራ የሚሠሩ በመሆኑ ከዚህ ዓይነት አመለካከት ወጥተው ስፔሻላይዝድ የሆነ ባንክ ወደ መሆን ቢሸጋገሩ በገበያው መቆየት ብቻ ሳይሆን የተሻለ አትራፊ ሆነው የሚቀጥሉበት ዕድል እንዳለ አቶ አወት ያመለክታሉ፡፡ 

በባንኮች መካከል እየታየ ያለው ልዩነት ግን ለምን ተፈጠረ የሚለውን በደንብ ማየት የሚጠይቅ መሆኑን የገለጹት አቶ አወት የውስጥ ፖሊሲን በመፈተሽ ይህ ለምን ሆነ ለሚለው ጥያቄ መልስ በመስጠት የሚመለስ መሆኑን ገልጸዋል፡፡ አፈጻጸማቸው ዝቅ ማለት ግን ባንኮቹን ከኢንዱስትሪው ውስጥ እንዲቆዩ አያደርጋቸውም፡፡ አካሄዳቸውን እስካስተካከሉ ድረስ በውይይት የተሻለ ውጤት ሊያመጡ የሚችሉበት ዕድል ሰፊ ነው፡፡ የውጭ ባንኮች በመግባታቸውም የሚጎዱበት ነገር ስለሌለ እስካሁን የመጡበትን መንገድ በመፈተሽ ወደፊት እንዴት ልናድግ እንችላለን የሚለው ላይ ሊሠሩ ይገባል ብለዋል፡፡ 

ይህ ካልሆነ ግን አነስ ያሉ ባንኮች በትልልቆቹ ሊዋጡበት የሚችሉበት ዕድል ሊኖር እንደሚችልም ጠቁመዋል፡፡

ዛሬ ከቀኑ 09:46 ጀምሮ ከባህርዳርና አካባቢው በስተቀር የኤሌክትሪክ ኃይል በመላው አገሪቱ መቋረጡን ኢትዮጵያ የኤሌክትሪክ ኃይል አስታውቋል።

ኢትዮጵያ የኤሌክትሪክ ኃይል በማህበራዊ ትስስር ገፁ በሲስተም ላይ በገጠመ ችግር ኃይል መቋረጡን እና ለጊዜው የችግሩን ምክንያት ለማወቅ ጥረት እየተደረገ መሆኑን አስታውቋል።

የተቋረጠውን ኤሌክትሪክ መልሶ የማገናኘት ሥራ የተጀመረ ሲሆን ችግሩን በመቅረፍ ዳግም ሲስተሙን መልሶ እስከሚገናኝ ድረስ ሕብረተሰቡ በትዕግስት እንዲጠብቅም ተቋሙ ጠይቋል!

ነገር ግን አሁን ማምሻውንበመላ ሀገሪቱ የተቋረጠው ኃይል መልሶ መገናኘት ጀምሯል።

ዛሬ ከቀኑ 09:46 ጀምሮ ከባህርዳርና አካባቢው በስተቀር በመላው ኢትዮጵያ ተቋርጦ የነበረው የኤሌክትሪክ ኃይል መልሶ መገናኘት ጀምሯል።

በዚህም መሰረት አብዛኛው የአዲስ አበባ ክፍል እና የተቀሩት የሀገሪቱ ክፍሎች መልሰው ኃይል ማግኘት ችለዋል።

የተቀሩትን አካባቢዎች መልሶ ለማገናኘት ጥረቱ ቀጥሏል።

Ethiopia has reached an agreement in principle with its official bilateral creditors on an interim debt-service suspension and will start talks to restructure a $1 billion Eurobond maturing next year, its finance ministry said on Wednesday.

Ethiopia’s economy is under pressure from double-digit inflation, hard currency shortages and growing debt repayments, a year after the federal government and forces from the rebellious northern Tigray region signed a truce to end a two-year civil war.

The East African country requested the debt-service suspension while carrying out programme discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and holding debt restructuring negotiations with official bilateral creditors under the G20’s Common Framework, the finance ministry said in a statement.

“The agreed interim debt-service suspension aims at … providing the country with appropriate breathing space for the period 2023 and 2024. The redemption terms for the suspended amount will maximise debt-service relief during the prospective IMF programme years while avoiding a bunching of maturities after the programme.”

“The circumstances which have necessitated an interim debt service relief from the OCC (Official Creditors Committee) also impact the country’s ability to service other external debts, including the Eurobond,” it added.

Ethiopian authorities said in August that China, which co-chairs its official creditors committee, was allowing the country to suspend debt payments for the fiscal year running until July 7, 2024. An IMF official said in October that Ethiopia was seeking a “similar” deal from other creditors.

Ethiopia had originally requested a debt rework under the Common Framework, a process set up by G20 countries in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in early 2021 but the process was delayed by its civil war.

Ethiopia had more than $28 billion of external debt at the end of March.

Between 2006 and 2022, Chinese lenders committed to more than $14 billion of loans to Ethiopia, according to Boston University.

An informal group of international bondholders in February proposed to Ethiopia’s government an extension of the maturity of the 2024 bond to 2029 or 2030, with an amortising structure to avoid a lump sum payment at the end.

Ethiopia’s 2024 Eurobond had fallen more than 1.5 cent on the dollar to just over 60.5 cents by 0852 GMT .

ኦሮሚያ ባንክ ከታክስ በኃላ ሪከርድ ሆኖ ተመዝግቧል ያለዉን 1.58 ቢሊዮን የተጣራ ትርፍ ማስመዝገቡን አሳወቀ

ኦሮሚያ ባንክ ከታክስ በፊት የተገኘው ትርፍ ሌላ ሪከርድ መሆኑን የገለፀዉን 1.5 ቢሊዮን ብር የተጣራ ትርፍ አሳክቻለሁ ብሏል።

የኦሮሚያ ባንክ ኢንቨስትመንት እ.ኤ.አ. ሰኔ 30 ቀን 2023 ብር 153 ሚሊዮን ደርሷል ብሏል። ይህም ተጨማሪ ኢንቨስትመንቶችን በማድረጉ በድምሩ 17.1 ሚሊዮን ብር፣ ከኦሮሚያ ኢንሹራንስ 8.59 ሚሊዮን፣ ከፀሃይ ኢንዱስትሪ 4.83 ሚሊዮን፣ ከኤትስዊች 3.68 ሚሊዮን፣ ቀሪውን ገንዘብ ከቀሪዎቹ ሦስት ኩባንያዎች ማግኘት መቻሉን በዓመታዊ ሪፖርቱ ገልጿል።

እ.ኤ.አ. ከሰኔ 30 ቀን 2023 ጀምሮ የዓለም አቀፍ የባንክ ሥራ አጠቃላይ የውጭ ምንዛሪ 371 ሚሊዮን ዶላር ያስገኘ ሲሆን ይህም የእቅዱን 102.1 በመቶ ውጤት ያሳያል። የኦሮሚያ ባንክም የውጭ ምንዛሪ ሃብት ካለፈው አመት ተመሳሳይ ወቅት ጋር ሲነጻጸር የ33 በመቶ እድገት አሳይቷል ያለ ሲሆን በኢትዮጵያ የባንክ ኢንደስትሪ ውስጥ ከፍተኛ እድገት መሆኑን ለካፒታል አሳዉቋል።

ባንኩ በበጀት አመቱ መጨረሻ 65.4 ቢሊየን ብር ሀብት መያዙን አሳዉቆ ካፒታሉ በበጀት አመቱ መጨረሻ ወደ ብር 5.4 ቢሊየን አድጓል ብሏል ።

ገቢው ካለፈው አመት ጋር ሲነፃፀር በ43 በመቶ (ብር 2.45 ቢሊዮን) በማደግ 8.3 ቢሊዮን ብር ደርሷል ያሉት የባንኩ ዋና ስራ አስፈፃሚ ተፈሪ መኮንን “የአመቱ አጠቃላይ ወጪ ካለፈው አመት ጋር ሲነጻጸር 47 በመቶ እድገት በማስመዝገብ ብር 6.3 ቢሊዮን ደርሷል”። የባንኩ ያልተጣራ ትርፍ ብር 2 ቢሊዮን መድረሱንም በሪፖርቱ ገልጿል።

Ethiopia To Manufacture Lada Cars For The African Market

Russia has wasted no time in developing its new BRICS relationship with Addis Ababa

Ethiopia will launch the production of Russian Lada cars on its territory for the African market, the countries Ambassador to Russia Cham Ugala Uriat has said. The move is significant as it illustrates why Ethiopia has joined BRICS – its low manufacturing cost base can assist keep production costs down while also providing access to the growing African market.

“We’ll see Russian Lada cars in neighboring countries in the near future, because Avtovaz have already signed a deal with one of the Ethiopian companies” Uriat said, adding that those cars will be produced in Ethiopia. Lada make a range of SUV suitable for the African market.

In particular, Russian cars may be supplied to Sudan and South Sudan, Kenya and Somalia, Uriat said, and expressed hope that the production will start in the near future.

Other Russian auto manufacturers “are showing interest now to go to Ethiopia to build assembling lines” as well, he noted. Two more companies are holding consultations with the Ethiopian side on that issue, the ambassador revealed.

Ethiopia is one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, and also has a burgeoning middle class. It is a member of the South-East African COMESA and the pan-African AfCFTA trade agreements, while a renewal of its WTO membership is pending. Ethiopia’s membership of COMESA gives it free trade access to Burundi, Comoros, the DR Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eswatini, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. COMESA in total includes about 640 million people and has a GDP of about USD918 billion.

በመቅደላ ጦርነት ወደ እንግሊዝ ተወስዶ የነበረው የቅድስት ድንግል ማርያም ወቅዱስ ገብርኤል ጽላት ለኢትዮጵያ ተመለሰ።

በ1860 ዓ.ም በመቅደላ ጦርነት ወደ እንግሊዝ ተወስዶ የነበረው የእመቤታችን የቅድስት ድንግል ማርያም ወቅዱስ ገብርኤል ጽላት በትላንትናው ዕለት መስከረም 10 ቀን 2016 ዓ.ም ለኢትዮጵያ ተመልሷል።

በትናንትናው ዕለት በእንግሊዝ ለንደን በተካሄደ የርክክብ ስነ ሥርዓት ከኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ፣ ከኢትዮጲያ ኢምባሲ ተወካዮች እንዲሁም ቅርሶቹን በማስመለስ ትልቅ ድርሻ የነበራቸው የሼሄራዛድ ፋውንዴሽን ኃላፊዎች ተገኝተዋል።

በኢትዮጲያ የታሪክና ባሕል ተመራማሪነታቸው የሚታወቁት ዶ/ር አሉላ ፓንክረስት እነዚህ በጦርነት ወቅት የተዘረፉ ቅርሶች እንዲመለሱ ከፍተኛ ጥረት ማድረጋቸው ተገልጿል።

የፊታችን እሑድ መስከረም 13/2016 ዓ.ም በርዕሰ አድባራት ለንደን ደብረ ጽዮን ቅድስት ማርያም ቤተ ክርስቲያን ለጽላቱ የክብር አቀባበልና ወደ ኢትዮጲያም ሽኝት እንደሚደረግለት ታውቋል።

እ.አ.አ በ2020 በለንደን የተመሠረተውና በእንግሊዝ ያሉ የኢትዮጵያ ቅርሶችን ለማስመለስ በርካታ ሥራዎችን የሠራው የሼሄራዛድ ፋውንዴሽን መሥራችና ሥራ አስኪያጅ ጣሂር ሻህ እነዚህን የመሰሉ ሃይማኖታዊ እና ባሕላዊ ቅርሶች ከተዘረፉ በኋላ መመለስ የተሰበረውን ለመጠገን የቆየን ቁስል ለመፈወስ አቅም እንዳላቸው ተናግረዋል።

ለቀጣይ የትብብር ሥራዎችም መሠረት ናቸው ያሉት ጣሂር ሻህ ያለንን አክብሮት ማሳያም ነው ሲሉ ገልጸዋል።

Ethiopia topples Uganda, Tanzania for Kenya investments abroad

Kenyan lenders, including KCB Bank, have expressed interest in entering the Ethiopian market.

Ethiopia has toppled Tanzania and Uganda as the leading destination of Kenya’s investment abroad, buoyed by the expansion of local firms in the giant neighbouring market.

Fresh data shows that Kenya’s direct investment in Ethiopia hit Ksh60.2 billion ($440.7 million) in 2021—surpassing Tanzania and Uganda’s Ksh51.5 billion ($377 million) and Ksh56.3 billion ($412 million), respectively.

Direct investment abroad — also referred to as outward direct investment — is a category of cross-border investment associated with a resident in one economy having control or a significant degree of influence on the management of an enterprise that is resident in another economy.

As well as the equity that gives rise to control or influence, direct investment also includes investment associated with that relationship, including investment in indirectly influenced or controlled enterprises, investment in fellow enterprises, debt (except selected debt), and reverse investment.

Table tilts in Addis’ favour

The newly released Economic Survey 2023 shows that although Tanzania was the leading destination for Kenya’s investment abroad at the start of 2015, the table has since tilted in favour of Addis Ababa.

“Tanzania was the leading destination for the country’s investment abroad at the start of 2015 the review period, with investments declining in 2018, but later recovering to reach Ksh51.5 billion in 2021” the survey said.

“Kenya’s direct investment in Uganda reached its peak at Ksh56.3 billion in 2019, while investments in Ethiopia reached Ksh60.2 billion in 2021” it added.

Several Kenyan firms including giant telecommunications company Safaricom have ventured in the Ethiopian market where it operates under the subsidiary Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia private limited company (STE).

Heavy investments

The new operation has ambitions of achieving gross margins of 40 percent in 10 years. The target is backed by heavy investments that the subsidiary will make in hiring staff and building infrastructure to acquire customers in the country with a population of more than 100 million.

The Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed Safaricom is the major shareholder of the subsidiary whose other owners are Vodacom Group, Sumitomo Corporation, and CDC Group.

Kenyan lenders, including KCB Bank, have expressed interest in entering the Ethiopian market. A delegation of senior executives from KCB Bank visited the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) in Addis Ababa in October last year where they held talks with Ethiopian government officials.

The visit by the KCB team came a month after Ethiopia’s Council of Ministers passed a landmark decision to open up the country’s banking sector to foreign investors.

The Economic Survey further shows that Kenya’s overall direct investments abroad generally exhibited an upward trend over the review period with a value of Ksh239.6 billion ($1.75 billion) as at the end of 2021 compared to Ksh93.5 billion ($684 million) as at the end of 2015 with the exception of 2020 where the stock of outward direct investment declined by 8.4 percent to Ksh161.1 billion ($1.18 billion), due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
